Sydney, A City in Another Hemisphere - Australian Museum

Unlike most other countries, Australia is located in the Southern Hemisphere where are the homes for numerous unique nature and culture. To feel Australia in one go, Australia Museum is the place to go.

Australian Museum is at a corner of Hyde Park.

Besides of the exhibitions in the museum, the museum building as a member of the Sydney Heritage Walk also deserves your attention.

Indigenous culture is a prominent component of Australia. The international event - 2000 Sydney Olympics Opening Ceremony played a strong emphasis on it.

These masks represented spirits of various nature elements which were usually used in festivals or religious rituals. They still look so chic today.

Drawing was for recording or expression before the birth of characters. These imaginative art pieces probably have stimulated numbers of modern artists to create.

The boomerangs at the bottom of the showcase was used for hunting in the past and decorations nowadays. The pipes on the right are aboriginal musical instruments. Some indigenous Australians perform in popular sightseeing spots to share their culture with the world.

Lyrebird (at the bottom) is one of well-known native birds in Australia. The first lyrebird was probably appeared about 15 millions years ago. What make it more special is its capability of imitating various sounds. Moreover, the huge beautiful tail of male attracts people's interests. Lucky that I saw a wild one in the Blue Mountains.

What is a bird? Find it out now.

The display board is self-explanatory.

Fish and chips which some fishes are sharks.

Adapt or die is also a challenge to human beings. Though our environment is not in critical situation everyday.

Even those surviving now may facing extinction. For example. the population of cute yet fierce Tasmania Devil is undergoing a big drop because of an incurable turmor.

A pretty octopus which is probably poisonous.

Oh my god! The dinosaur wanted break out. Calm down. The idea of the movie "Jurassic Park"has not yet come true. Well, not yet.

An exhibit showing how to examine fossil.

To name a gemstone representing Australia, certainly it is opal. Around 80% of opal in the world is from the country.
Amazing nature. Form of minerals can be changed by heat.

Reading a book with pets around is common in our daily lives. Yet, it's quite unconventional to convert the scene in skeleton form.

Lastly, the museum gives away discount coupon through Sydney travel guide available at airport and visitor information centres.
